The Effect of Wall Elasticity on the Properties of a Helmholtz Resonator

چکیده

The effect of compliant walls on the properties of a Helmholtz resonator is examined. The effective stiffness of the resonator is decreased by the wall compliance, while the effective mass is unchanged to leading order. The radiation resistance is also decreased ue to a cancellation between the radiation from the cavity opening and the radiation from the cavity walls. This leads to a reduction i the cross ection atresonance by the factor [Z,/(Z, + Z•) ] 4, where Z, is the wall impedance and Z• is the total fluid loading on the breathing mode of the cavity.

Elastic Helmholtz resonators

The influence of wall elasticity on the response of a Helmholtz resonator is examined by analyzing the canonical case of a thin elastic spherical shell with a circular aperture subject o plane wave excitation. By neglecting the thickness of the wall and representing the elasticity via a "thin shell" theory the problem is reduced to one of solving an integral equation over the aperture for the p...

Size Effect Impact on the Mechanical Behavior of an Electrically Actuated Polysilicon Nanobeam based NEMS Resonator

In this paper, the dynamic response of resonating nano-beams is investigated using a strain gradient elasticity theory. A nonlinear model is obtained based on the Galerkin decomposition method to find the dynamic response of the investigated beam around its statically deflected position. The mid-plane stretching, axial residual stress and nonlinear interaction due to the electrostatic force on ...

Numerical Modeling and Experimental Study of Probe-Fed Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (RDRA) Supported by Finite Circular Ground Plane

Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRAs) have received increased interest in recent years for their potential applications in microwave and millimeter wave communication systems. DRAs are normally used with the support of a ground plane. The radiation and impedance properties therefore depend not only on their physical dimensions and dielectric properties, but also on the size of the ground plane. ...

Analysis of a solid state wave gyroscope with thin shell cylindrical resonator and calculation of its conversion factor

In this work the equations of motion of a Solid State Wave Gyroscope (SWG) with rotary thin cylindrical shell resonator is analyzed using the shell and plates elasticity theory. The gyroscope conversion factor found in this analytical study corresponds with the experimental results obtained and listed in the References. The function of the SWG to measure the angular velocity or the rotating ang...

Understanding of the Flow Behaviour on a Helmholtz Resonator Excited by Grazing Flow

Grazing flow passing over the quiescent fluid inside the cavity of a Helmholtz resonator can excite the resonator. When the frequency of the instabilities within the shear layer is near the natural frequency of the resonator then flow-excited resonance will occur. This process causes self-sustained periodic oscillations of the flow over the orifice of the resonator. Quantitative numerical predi...
